I mean if jack Daniels is 80 proof what is that in degrees? The reason I ask is that I live in Thailand now and the Thai's like to drink this rice whiskey called Lao Khao and they always talk about it as being 40 degree.I have never heard of that in American before. They ask me what the average degrees of whiskey in America are and I can't tell them. How do you convert this? Before any silly responses,no I am not a alcy,I am just asking what the conversion table is.

a degree is basically another name for the gay-lussac proof, which is half of the US proof. So Jack Daniels is 40 degrees as well.

Not familier with the term degrees used like this, but 80 proof=40%alcohol by volume. that means 40 of the stuff in the bottle is pure alcohol and the rest is water and everything that give the flavours. beer is around 5 or 6 percent. everclear(the real stuff) is 75% i believe(150 proof) but I might be wrong on that one. anyway I hope this helps give you some idea.....
