I am English and I want to go to Thailand on a gap year. At the moment I have not really looked into businesses which offer Summer camps, but I am going to soon. If you want, you can add my email address and I can tell you when I have sorted it out. You can also add me as a contact if you want. Its marekstech@yahoo.com
2 :
St. Stephens International School in Khao Yai has an English summer camp. Not sure but it might be for children only.
3 :
I think there are many small English summer camps where the Thai students go for a couple of weeks to improve their English skills - only thing is - that is not in June/July - that is regular term - summer is March and April - hot season - good luck to you.

Most English Camps are held during the school break period. But June and July is not that time. Some Schools do hold a 1 or 2 day English camp, but knowing which school is doing it, you need to know someone. There are some agencies who employ teachers for English camps. You can google them. I know of one called.DragonFly English Camp. Here is the website http://dragonfly-english-camps.com/ I attended the English camp with Dragonfly and they do a good job.

Is 15000 Baht enough for a person to live on in Bangkok Thailand, apartment, food etc

Is 15000 Baht enough for a person to live on in Bangkok Thailand, apartment, food etc?
I know how the currency is done but am wondering is the "Buying" power of the Baht less equal or more then the dollar?

ok - not sure I get this - - the buying power of the baht is the buying power of the baht - it has little to do with how weak or strong the dollar is - the dollar will fluctuate in value. As to comparative value - yes, mostly you will get more for your money in Thailand - especially in the areas of food and housing, more so outside of Bkk - as the dollar goes down, you will get less of a bargain. - There are somethings that I can buy considerably cheaper in the USA especiall after season sales. Any imported goods are expensive here as you might imagine.
2 :
The average Thai earns about 7 000 Baht a month so 15 000 a month might seem like a lot. However the Thais live in extended families where everyone contributes. So 15 000 for a household might not be enough. If you are single and willing to live as a Thai 15 000 would be enough. You could rent a room including utilities (not an apartment) for 1 500 - 3 000 Baht a month. If you ate meals on the street you could get buy on 150 Baht a day (x30 = 4 500). Food is also fairly cheap to buy in supermarkets and you could save here. But imported foods especially cheese, chocolates and biscuits are all very expensive. Bus fare costs from 10 - 15 Baht a trip. A taxi van 20 - 30 Baht. A metered taxi starts at 35 Baht. A movie costs 120 Baht. A meal for one in a small restaurant 100 Baht. Alcohol and cigarettes are quite expensive. Clothes are cheap. You would be able to afford a TV and DVD player, cell phone and some basic internet at home. If you live as a Thai you certainly won't struggle, but if you want to live as a westerner with western foods and luxuries you won't make it. The problem is that although you earn 15 000 Baht when you go out shopping everything you pay for costs 50, 100, 200 Baht so before you realize it a lot of your money has gone. If you live outside of Bangkok it will be a little cheaper.
3 :
Although there are many Thais who would live on this and less per month, there is general agreement that for a Westerner you would need at least double this to start to be comfortable. I have stayed in a nice room for 5000 baht per month with water and electric adding another 1000 baht or so. On top of that you have food and clothing to come out of the remaining 9000 baht. You need to also think about the costs of medical insurance and returning to your homeland periodically. Is is doable, yes sure but I wouldn't want it to be my only option. Suggest you save up some more money and have some savings behind you before you go.
4 :
To live in Bangkok, 15000 Baht doesn't sound like much. 6-10000 Baht for a small one room apartment w/bathroom is normal price. It also depends on where in Bangkok you want to stay. The closer your apartment is to the skytrain, the higher the rent. Transportation - Taxi, you can go from one end of BKK to the other for less than 400 Baht. BTS Skytrain and the subway, The skytrain is probably the best way to get around BKK, a single trip costs about 20-25 Baht. You can also get around BKK in the city buses but if you don't speak any Thai you might want to go by skytrain, subway, or taxi. Food - You can eat 40 Baht meals at the street vendors or you can go to McDonalds and spend 3-500 Baht there. If my wife and I eat at home we can live for 200 Baht/day but if we go out then it is at least 200 Baht per meal. Shopping - The cheapest is if you go to the fresh market to do your shopping. If you shop at the department store or supermarket the prices will be higher and if you buy imported goods expect them to cost the same as in the west sometimes more expensive. To me 15000 Baht in Bangkok doesn't sound like a lot, I would calculate with at least 1000 Baht per day. Hope this was helpful to you. Have a great day!

No it is not enough for you to live on. I take more than that out one time when I withdraw from my ATM, my wife makes more than double that and she's Thai. You want to lower your standard of living you come here and do it and see. Your be like some of those farangs begging for money on Sukmitvit Road.
6 :
Many Thais live on less than15,000 baht per month. Most Westerners, including myself, couldn't survive on 15,000 baht per month. If you live like the Thais you could live on 15,000 per month. It also depends on where you live in Bangkok. You can get a room in the suburbs for 1,500 baht per month. Or you could live in an expensive neighborhood and pay a lot more for your room. Most English teachers make between 30,000 and 35,000 baht per month. Chiang Mai is cheaper than Bangkok. But it's harder to get a job in Chiang Mai.
7 :
Unless you want to live like a peasant 15000B per month is no where near enough money to live on, even if you double it to 30,000 its still tight to live on. My comments are of course subjective as I've no clue to your life style.
8 :
As an American I use 1000 dollars per day just on jellly doughnuts and grits and possum pie so if you are not from USA then you will be fine and yankee doodle dandy with 15000 easy peasy lemon squeezy
9 :
I think in my opinion thaats not enough for you to live on. I take more than that out one time when I withdraw from anyATM, my wife makes more than double that from 1 customer in the go go bar and she's Thai. You want to lower your standard slightly of living you come here and do it and see.how things go good luck my friend ;))))

yes if you not eating junk food like us blimp yanks you can try some fried bugs ah roy mak mak ใช่ถ้าคุณไม่กินอาหารขยะอย่างเรา คุณสามารถลองบางประการของทอดอาหมากหมากรอย
11 :
If you have to try and get by on 15,000 p/m I really wouldn't bother to come ,because it's too tight ,and doesn't really allow an extra for fun and enjoyment at all. If your idea of a good time is sweating in a room ,looking at the ceiling worrying about how much the monthly bills will be coming in at ,what's the point?. 15,000 with apartment costs ,is doable ,but it's gonna be a pretty much miserable existence.
12 :
How long does the 15,000 Baht need to last? 1 month? 1 week? Generally, the essential things in Thailand, such as accommodation and food are very reasonably priced and affordable in comparison to the US. For example a room w/ an en suit in Bkk can be found from as little as 3-4,000 Baht/mth. A comfortable apartment in the city could be found from 6-10,000 Baht (possibly less) and food from street vendors can be brought from 30-50 Baht per dish - so the basic essentials are very reasonably priced. 15,000 Baht could last a month, but you would need to be fairly disciplined with it - 25/30,000+ Baht would be a OK budget, 50,000 Baht would be good and 75,000+ Baht would be excellent.

Wow. Just a great reminder of how much I take for granted here in the states.

believe it or not, Thailand is pretty mild. If you go visit other countries PRISOnS are so HORRENDOUS! anad if this happened to you in Muslim countries, you might even end up getting executed

The article in the link you gave (thanks for that I'll add it to my collection) mentions the Ji Ungpakorn case (actually his first name is Giles) which is still at the early stages of the process in Thailand. In some ways it is a bigger case than Harry's as Giles is an academic at one of the most prestigious universities in Thailand so its really going to be a test case for academic freedom of speech in Thailand. The result in Harry's case speaks for the way things seem to be going. In relation to Giles, I noticed the following a few days ago: "Giles Ungpakorn urged opponents of the charges against him to write a letter of protest to the prime minister at Government House, Bangkok, Thailand Fax number +66(0)29727751, to write letters of protest to the ambassador of the Royal Thai embassy in opponents' own countries, and to ask that Amnesty International take up all lèse-majesté cases in Thailand." http://www.asiasentinel.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1661&Itemid=185 This is Giles' book referred to in the article: http://www.isj.org.uk/docs/CFRbook.pdf I don't necessarily agree with all Giles' political views but I think freedom of speech is an important issue.
