there are so many facts needed to determine the cost of living here in Thailand, First off location, do you want to live in a big city like Bangkok, small town, or a resort area, prices can be from $150 dollars to $1,000 a month, also to consider is do you want hot water and air condition. water is rather cheap here I pay no more then 100 baht a month, but electric is about the same as the states (high). Transportation is cheap from taxi for 35 for the first two km. Or take a local bus that can run from 7 baht or air condition bus for about 20 baht. I think the best thing to do is come here for a vacation at least twice before you decided to live here and check the place out travel to other location outside of Bangkok to get a better view of the area. Other other thing to think about is the visa requirements to live here, you need to check to see if your qualify for a long stay visa. You can e-mail me if you like to ask other questions.

Actually - Thai is becoming more expensive especially for Americans as the $$ buys fewer baht - down maybe 20% in the last couple of years... Be more specific and drop the question back into play.. It will depend on your definiton of "nice" and where you want to be - I live in a farming village - we built a nice house and our monthly expenses are abt $30 for electric and water - which is 10x more than the rest of the family here because we have a large garden to water and a/c.. In the small city nearby, you can rent a decent western style house for abt $100.. and noodle soup is still 10 baht [ 30 cents ] - so, beach and city are more expensive..

You can find a decent clean and safe apartment, room or condo for under $300. US dollars. As for living expenses=---a little or a lot....depends on what you want to do and how you want to live.

I think that there was a question about this a couple of weeks ago that I didn't answer because the figure of USD1,600 a month had already been suggested by a couple of people which I think is about right. Maybe a bit - but not much - less if living outside Bangkok - in which case you may need a car.
