you will be going no wear with $200,000 if you had gone 100 years a go you my have had a chance.
2 :
Wait to your over 50 and retire here. Invest your money. Don't rush into anything too fast, just because you met this lovely Thai girl. $200,000 isn't going to get you a business and a condo, plus asking the same question twice in the last 9 hours doesn't help get better answers. Also go into this with the knowledge that you could and very well may lose all that money in a business.

Hello, First of all I would be very hesitant to just pick up and move to Thailand. You need to make an extended visit before ever trying to do something like that. I don't know of any Arabic neighborhoods, although the Saphan Kwai area seems to be popular with Arabic tourists. The internet cafe idea has been done. My estimate is that the market is saturated unless you can come up with something very new. Even then, competition will soon adopt whatever innovation develop. Other posters have indicated, and it is true, $200,000 is not a lot of money for a business start up. My recommendations: 1) make and extended visit to Thailand to see if you even like living in the country, and, 2) while there determine what you can do that others cannot do so easily. If you can find this you may have the start of a successful business.

Doing business here for a foreigner can be very tough, but it will get you a business visa, which can be worth something to you. No idea abt the hookah place, other than that you aren't the first on any of these ideas - a restaurant might be your best option - - but doing business here can be problematic for many many reasons. The customs and ways of biz are not always the same as yours might be - - As a retired biz man, I sometimes have ideas, but soon come to my senses - I am glad that I made my money in my country and can use it to retire here. But, only you can really come to what ideas and business you might be happy pursuing. The only real recommendation I can give you is that you should rent rather than buy. At least for the first year. Condos have problems w/management and many go broke... many caveats here too, but you really won't know much until you have spent extended time here, made some friends and gained some knowledge - you need to learn this country and its ways, just like you learned Muay Thai - if you got into the ring the first day, with no knowledge of the sport, you probably would have made alot of costly mistakes - - it's easier to spend money than get it back - - selling condos might not be easy - - I think if you are careful you won't regret it later

How cheaply could I live in Thailand

How cheaply could I live in Thailand?
I actually stayed in Thailand before so I know what to expect, as far as living conditions etc. But I forgot the prices of things. So I want to go back and stay there longer this time. I realize Chiang Mai and Isaan areas are cheaper, but how cheaply do you think I could live in Bangkok (or the outskirts where it might be cheaper)? realistically Just like monthly, for food and motel only. I dont want to live in a guesthouse or a hostel, just a motel/hotel with air conditioning. I just need to know Food and Motel/Hotel Yes Ive been to Thailand http://www.youtube.com/thailandtl http://www.myspace.com/cjthai I call it motel, in USA we call cheap places motels, expensive places hotels. I say motel to stress that I want a cheap place.

$500 - $900 US dollars for one month will do it, including food! Check out Pattaya, lots of variety for lodging. Good restaurants too. Lots of supermarkets. You can stay in a cheap place and eat crappy food or stay in a better place and eat better food! Cheap hotel with air starts around 350 baht per day. Been to Thailand - motel???? Most of the motels are on the highways out in the sticks. In Thailand hotels and hostels will be reasonably priced! Happy trails.
2 :
well, once you get out into the neighborhoods, it should be cheaper but any hotel/motel is not likely going to be the cheapest way to go - I know of pretty decent places in CM, boutique hotel where you can rent a room for $200 a month but I do not think you will get close to that in bkk - you could easily do CM for $500 a month, Bkk might be twice that for something not as ince...
3 :
go to pattay you can live in cheap rooms down to200 baht if you eat thai food its only 30 baht a go to crazy Dave's and get a english breakfast for 60 baht keep a way from the girly bars or you will be going home tomorrow.i have my own place but me and my thai wife go fishing to ko larn a Small island every day come back she gets the fish stakes on i have two beer and for all day 200baht.BILL
4 :
Best bet is to stay in Pattaya and if you need to travel to BKK get a bus 200 bht each way. Depends what your budget is - you can get 1 bedroom condos for 7000 bht a month or rent from a room from a Thai for 3000 Bht a month Up To You ( as the locals say ) Some Hotels do long stay offers . An American chap I know stays in Siam Sawasdee for 7500 Bht a month. As for food - well if you like Thai but you like to eat 3 times a day 400 Bht should do you - but if you have condo buy from 7-11 and cook yourself you can easily manage on 200 Bht a day. Some Thai people a know eaen as little as 150Bht a day so if they can mange I am sure you will be able to as well. Enjoy yourself in the Land of Smiles
5 :
In Rangsit, just outside Bangkok and past the old Don Muang airport you can get an air-con room for 2000 baht per month. Food if you eat in food courts or on the street for about 50 baht per meal including drink McDonalds 100 baht for cheeseburger Meal Pizza Company 80 baht for Pasta and 360 baht for large pizza Sandwich at 7/11 and bag of chips 35 baht KFC 2 piece meal 100 baht
6 :
I'm Thai but not living in Bangkok. I live in a small quiet peaceful town called Phrae. It's in north of thailand, not so far from Chiang Mai (4 hours of driving). Everything here is cheap (because it's a small town), you can get a room @ the apartment I know of for 3,000/month, food starts @ 15 baht.
7 :
Cheap accommodation you can get an apartment for as little as 2000-3000 baht a month in Nonthaburi which is the next province outside Bangkok but only 30 minutes to the centre. This includes an air-con and hot water. Food can be eaten on the streets as little as 20 baht per meal / snack or a full blown meal in the food centre in most malls about 50-60 baht Beer is about 30 baht Large Leo, Singha or 60 Baht Large Heineken from 7-11 store and from 80-110 baht Small from expat bars. Best way to get a good deal is to get a Thai to negotiate a price for an apartment or Condo. Also try LPN Condo there is alot of being rented out at about 10000 baht which is top end of the market
8 :
I don't understand why people think it is so much cheaper in The north or north east. Is it really? I live very inexpensively in Pattaya. It all depends on how you live.

18 maybe i have to idea sorry
6 :
At 18, but thats what most people love about thailand. They dont follow the laws!
7 :
I've never heard of this one before. I guess if you have sufficient means to support yourself why not. But usually if you are under 13 years of age you are considered (by law) a minor and require protector, in form of guardian. By law in Thailand, a female can legally be married at the age of 15 and male at 17, both however under parental consent. At the age of 20, a person is considered mature and can carry on a legal commitment by oneself, including legally be married without parental consent. It may be safe to say that you can go on and live by yourself from the age of 15, and you are eligible for voting at the age of 18.
8 :
I'm not sure but in Thailand they never really seem to care too much! I've seen countless numbers of children walking the streets and no-one ever seems to worry about them. I would guess that you have to be at least 16 though. Why don't you contact the Thai embassy? If you google them I'm sure that you could find their number. Good luck :-)
9 :
Do you have a means of support? How will you pay for your hotel, food and medical care? I know that I have come across 16 year olds traveling alone in Thailand but they had support from family members. Normally you just can't show up and stay in Thailand unless you are Thai! Foreigners have visa requirements to meet, sufficient income to support yourself, etc. You must have a valid passport before anything is done anyway. Short time visit probably no problem if you are over 16. You do have to check with the airlines and see if they have any restrictions on minors traveling without parental support. Don't ever think that by moving to a different country will solve all of your problems. When you are overseas you have all sorts of other problems to contend with. Minor infractions involving police in Thailand will be more severe than anything you get in your home country. Things that are a "slap on the wrist" in your country could result in prison terms in Thailand.
10 :
at least 20.... then will not have any problem when you need to do any contact like renting or sort of things.... anyway, make decision carefully.... it may change your whole life......G'luck

Thailand because its a good country, tourist friendly, they have exotic places there and it has good food,,, but phillipines is a bit more expensive because when i lived in phillipines for a year there was either poor or rich,, and the houses there were really expensive but thailand has beautiful houses that are affordable!!!!
2 :
Live permanently? Or just temporarily? It depends on your purpose and resources. Tell us more and we will give you more details!
3 :
it depends which country are you in
4 :
I have lived in both and now live in the Philippines. Thailand is much easier for foreigners to live in than in the Philippines except for the language. English speaking people would find it easier in the Philippines to communicate. Years ago the Thai government saw the benefits of having expatriate live and own business's in Thailand and they changed their laws to accommodate them. Yes, there are still restrictions on foreigners, but not like the Philippines. The Philippines is way behind and I doubt if they will catch up in twenty years because the attitude about foreigners owning land and business's' in the Philippines is so negative. The poor and middle class people of the Philippines do not realize that the politicians and wealthy are the ones spreading the bad propaganda about foreigners investing and having more control of their business's in the Philippines because the rich Filipinos cannot control the land and business's'. They cannot force foreigners to give them 60 percent of their business and control just to do business in the Philippines. The poor would benefit with more jobs and higher wages if those restrictions were lifted.
