No. Retirement income is taxed by where you live.

This might work: 1. Go to this web page and login: http://edit.yahoo.com/config/set_int...=eh jOr3I3E1e 2. You should get a pull-down menu asking for your preferred content. Change to "Yahoo! U.S. in English." (or whatever you prefer) 3. Click Finished

For the ladies on here, how many of you live in Thailand...?
How many of you live in Thailand? What is it like for you? I wanna move there, as I think its like really awesome and all. But when I read the questions on YA, it is really creepy cus everyone who asks sumthin is all like about hooking up with Thai girls. I looked on Google and is Thailand as seedy as it appears on this forum and on the internet?

I am not a woman but I know that there are foreign (Farang) women who live in Thailand. Thai Visa Forum has a section dedicated to women in Thailand. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Ladies-Thailand-f15.html Don't move to Thailand without visiting first. Plus - you just can't move to Thailand and live there without proper permission from the Thai government. There are some women employed in international companies who do business in Thailand and there are some women who are teachers. The way you write may exclude you from getting a job teaching! Read up on Thailand before you visit. Yes, like many countries, there are some areas that have a few bars - so what! No one forces you into a bar against your own will! Thousands of people walk by bars every day and are never molested! Some foreign women do have Thai boyfriends and lovers, sometimes they support them or pay them. Gigolo is an Italian term, so that means you will find this service in Europe too! Think before you move anywhere overseas! Salaries may be quite a bit less than you are used to. You may have to lower your standard of living unless you are independently wealthy. Good luck.

If you want a realistic view of Thailand, check http://www.visualthailand.com the only commercial free website depicting 1,000's of real Thailand Photos. You will see everything about Thailand you can possible think about seeing in real photos. This will help you make up your mind. In all actuality the seedy life is 1% only, there is so much more to Thailand

I think you have got the wrong idea . Try going to less TOURISTY places and you will find thailand as normal as any country . Can i suggest you go to Chiang Mai or even Bangkok but stay away from places like Patpong . You will find Thailand enjoyable and very easy for a lady to move about . The openness of Thailand and easy money has made Thailand infamous for sex . Let me tell you that is only one aspect of Thailand . When i was dating Thai girls online i found them very decent because they were well educated some even with a Masters degree . You see you get what you look for :)

Not exactly true. I live here and am a Thai. The only reason sex trade (along with hooking up with local girls) was explicitly been focus in Thailand because of the differences in the value of currencies, especially US dollars versus Thai baht. This is about to be a history with US currency melting down at the moment.

A question for ladies and 5 men answer... what does that tell you about Thailand. Sure you want to come?

How do i live in Asia(Thailand or Philippines)when i am not 55 & can't get a retirement visa

How do i live in Asia(Thailand or Philippines)when i am not 55 & can't get a retirement visa?
i have heard of 'visa runs' and other shady dealings but other than going to school overseas or teaching English there seems no other option. i would have about $1500 USD a month and perhaps more.

Try a good volunteer organization (see below). There are a variety of projects you could get involved with, you would get a visa for your stay (for however long), and $1500 a month would be more than enough for expenses!
2 :
You can come and work as a school teacher, teaching English, if you have educational qualifications. A bachelor degree in education with certificate in TESL will best qualify you and gets a work permit. Without legal work permit, you can only stay for few months and have to getting out and in. Or, you can marry a Thai lady, but you must have a monthly income of not less than US$2,000 a month to stay, to get a yearly visa. If you come , other than these means, you will have to goiing in and out and the hurdle and hussle is not worth the peace and enjoyment you are expecting.

Sorry to say you are out of luck in Thailand (I don't know the requirements for PI) For a retirement visa in Thailand you need to be 50 years old and have a copy of a bank statement showing a deposit of 800,000 Baht or an income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly income of 65,000 Baht. $1500 USD a month is about 49,000 baht. If you are desperate to live in Thailand the next option is to get married to a thai girl. http://www.thaivisa.com/318.0.html
4 :
The age requirement for a retirement visa is 50 not 55, so you got 5 years less to wait. However, your right other than marriage and 40,000 baht income or 400,000 in the baht, going to school, or teaching you will have to wait until your golden years. Thailand now is getting harder on those who try to stay here on long stay during visa runs and multi tourist visas. They are checking when it seems you have overstayed your visit. Thailand is trying to keep the trash out, if you know what I mean.

I have never heard visa runs referred to as shady. They are a legitimate way for people to renew visas. Sure, there are qualifications etc - - from what I have seen here, there are all sorts of ways to do this. As they say, where there is a will there is a way - -
6 :
they give you a 30 day visa when you arrive in the Philippines,,,,after that you have to go to the Immigration in Manila every 2 months for an extension,,,,,, after 18 months you have to leave the country for a week when the whole thing starts again,,,,,,,, or marry a Filipina

If you want to live in Thailand or the Philippines, the most important thing is that you have a regular, steady income to support yourself and live. You should realize that the local people will always be preferred when it comes to employment and that wages are low in general. You may be able to find a job teaching English to local kids, however many schools look for people with degrees. Even then, the pay isn't fabulous. If you can get your hands on $1500 a month to love in either of these countries, then you can have a pretty reasonable lifestyle. In Thailand, you can obtain a multiple entry tourist visa, This will allow you to stay in the country for 3 months at a time. You then do a visa run and re-enter from one of the boarding countries. Once the visa runs out, you have to return to your country of residence and apply for another visa.
8 :
With a $65,000 deposit in a Philippine bank you can get an investment type visa, this is a special program to get foreigners to invest in the Philippines. If you could swing that and have some kind of income you could live like a king.
9 :
Many of the above what others said is correct. You need to be 50 years old for a retirement visa. 800,000 or 400,000 (when married to a Thai national) Baht. I know people who stayed in Thailand for a decade or more on tourist visas. Even some people who have enough money prefer the tourist visa route. Some don't want to tie up the money in a Thai Bank account or are concerned about changes in Thai law regarding foreigners living in Thailand. There is a whole industry, big companies who do visa runs and many do it alone. Vientiane, Laos is the preferred country right now but you can also get tourist visas in Cambodia and Malaysia. They have, in recent months, given people with too many tourist visas ..red stamps in Laos. Saying that these people can't get another tourist visa.
