Is it hard to live in thailand?
I have heard its a really great place to visit but to live its a bit hard because of the language barrier. I love thailand its very nice but im scared if im about to go there in the futuree. Really cute people though!!

I think its Not hard as you think if you try to understand what is going on.Well theres lots of inter schools there,they dont only speak thai language afterall,oh what i meant was people in Bangkok,not all of them knows of speaking thai only lol.Thats what i know since as you may find it weird but im actually a mix of chinese and thai lol.So I kinda travel a lot there.I just love my grandma's place,as for the city,creepy people to me like Bangkok ? ( SOME ) Well nowdays,I heard of many people from other country studying abroad in Bangkok,Thailand.Hmm..some of them get to fit well...All you need to do is just follow their religion and all, try learning their language as more to make yourself comfort.Its just if your going there anyways. Cute people you say,I would like to add polite as well.

Its not the language, its adjusting to the attitude Thais are both laid back (so its hard to get things done) and poor (so they think that when they do something you as a rich foreigner should share your wealth). These two traits cause the opposite of service. If your going for vacation don't worry about it, I have been plenty and I have seldom had any problems traveling or buying. Many people speak enough English that you can get by. I have even been places where there were no English speakers and have been able to get what I want. Its a very fun place to visit.

When you say "live" in Thailand - do you mean to move there for a long time or just a short tourist type visit? As far as the language barrier goes - for shopping, travel agents, hotel clerks, ordering drinks or food you shouldn't have too much of a problem. There is always someone who knows enough English to help you. You can always carry a small English to Thai dictionary with you anyway. You can find lots of Western type foods if you are "food shy" and you will find the normal tourist food traps like McDonalds, KFC and Burger Kings all over the big cities. Lots of retirees from Europe or America live in Thailand on their pensions. A retiree gets a different type of visa. If you are young and want to live there you have to follow the guidelines that the Thai government mandates. You do have to have some sort of income coming in to support your self and you may have to prove it. Millions and millions of tourists visit Thailand every year - almost all of them would return again! Many tourists return to Thailand year after year, often with their children in tow. (Over 14 million tourists visited Thailand in 2007.) Visit first and then decide if that is the way of life you want for a longer stay. Good luck.

it can't be too hard. I know a teacher who has been here for 9 years. He has been fired from over 30 schools, has no social graces, and he can't speak a word of Thai. That said, he never runs out of jobs, he has been able to support a bar girl with for the past 4 years, and he is self sufficient. And despite a pair of overstays, each more than a year, he has never had a problem with being able to get into the country.

Not really. Everyone says to learn basic or survival Thai. But there are plenty of people who speak English and hand gesture work too. With taxis call the place you are going to on a cell phone, then tell them to tell the directions to the taxi driver then pass to him the phone. In order to teach a lot of schools want a TESOL or TEFL certificate. What I do in a large city is locate a place to stay near work or the trains. The buses get around but can get stuck in traffic. Understand well the visa situation and don't risk working without a work permit-I have been warned it is quite strict or I would have taken a job offered to me. And don't go in for a foot massage or other massage or the cute girl will be pulling your pants down before you know it.
