Truly nothing different then most places. You will be seen a foreigner and possibly a tourist by many people therefore people trying to sell you stuff will be increased more then normal but if you can speak thai, know there customs, and deal with the humidity you should be fine. The one thing you should be aware of is that America has good health care. So in Thailand be aware the health care might no be what you expect.

You want to live here the rest of your life as a teacher? Well, first you need a degree in teaching or a degree in any other subject and a TEFL. After you get your low paying job as a teacher you will earn about 25,000 to 35,000 baht a month. The school will need to help you get a work permit and you will have to extend your contract with that school each year or as long as your contract is for. Your going to find that life is not all roses here. Especially with the low salary and I am sure you have some young lady waiting for you. Good luck to you it's not all as easy as is sounds.

Teaching is not highly paid in Thailand, unless you are working in one of the better international schools - in which case you would need to be a qualified and experienced teacher, and generally employed through jobs fairs / placement companies that specialise in teaching in international schools. Actually trying to live in Thailand (forever) is not easy at all. Yearly work permits can be gotten through your employer. Alternatively if you owned a business in Thailand (as a legal foreign owned entity) this would also come with a visa allowing you to stay. However this would not be permanent either and would need to be renewed on a regular basis.

Have you got a degree? Are you willing to work for low wages and live in a tropical climate without any air conditioning or other luxuries? There is a slight chance you can get a job with an international company and get higher wages but you must have some experience or at least know someone who can "fix" it for you. It sounds like you need to do some major research and get a reality check my friend. The Thai government are very strict about issuing work permits to foreigners and I’m pretty sure you need a degree to teach English in Thailand. If you want to work in Thailand why don’t you get your qualifications/degree and get some experience in your field, then you will not be limited to just teaching. Teaching wages in Thailand are enough to live on, but like Khun Bob says: it's not all as easy as it sounds. Good luck buddy

Apply for job first, but you will need to spell better if you want to teach in Thailand. There are international schools which pay quite well. I mean better than 30,000 baht a month like most English teachers got. I know in most good international schools in Thailand, teachers get paid about 120,000 baht a month on average. My job deals with visiting international schools and give them loans for expansion. You will need to be a qualified teacher however to get those jobs, and go through proper channel to obtain work permit, which the school usually will do it for you.
