The above answers are right, you are a little closer traveling east to west, Thailand is a little less than half way around the world in that direction. If you're looking to travel to Thailand, most of the Asian and American airlines will travel from east to west from the US to Thailand and Asia. You do have the option of going the other direction and travel through Europe or the Middle East, normally it's more expensive in that direction and a longer way to go.

Actually, the shortest distance would be slightly west of due north, crossing northern Canada, over the top to Siberia, Mongolia, Laos and down into Thailand. For example, the Thai Airways nonstop flight from New York to Bangkok usually travels due north and crosses the north pole, sine that is the shortest distance. Sometimes that route varies a bit to take advantage of winds.
