You will first need to sort out a visa for the country you want to retire in so you don't have to do visa runs every month this applies to thailand, you could work as an english teacher after completing a TEFL course this can be done in 4 weeks in thailand, you are supposed to have a degree as well but places will accept teachers without especially in rural thailand, the wages are about 30,000 thai baht per month. you can do alot more than this unless you start you own Business which takes capital and alot of legal issues, unless you have a trusty thai to work through! import and export are an option as is selling on ebay, but you need to fined a product in demand to make a decent wage on it.Retiring is best done with a income from abroad and a nice amount of money in the bank, working is not retiring is it!

well you need a visa for long term but it not easy to stay in Thailand for long unless you married to a Thai woman like I do , I work as a language teacher in my friend's language school or if you can, you can start a small business there with a trustworthy Thai friend , to retire you need a substantial amount of money for you to live there.

Get a job first before you come. Then, you can live legally.
